Starting your puppy off with the right training is essential to their development. The imprinting stage is a key period where puppies are especially receptive to learning, making it the ideal time to introduce foundational skills. The Puppy Foundational Obedience Program is designed to teach both you and your puppy the basic commands and practical skills necessary to raise an obedient, confident, happy, independent, and well-balanced dog. Not all puppy programs are the same, choosing a quality course ensures you and your puppy gain skills that translate to real-life situations. While food rewards are used to introduce new behaviours, it’s important to learn how to gradually phase them out so you maintain reliable control without relying on treats.

Price: $500 · 5 x 1hr group sessions, plus a 90 min real world session at Westport Park
Includes: Group graduation test, access to private Facebook group, graduation certificate, free access to the advanced obedience section of the JHDT app

This is where obedience gets tested against real distractions, impulse control around other dogs and people, loose lead walking in a busy environment, distance control, and in-motion obedience. It's a genuinely high bar, both you and your dog need a solid level of skill and handling to pass the group real world graduation test, but that's the point.
For: Dogs with basic obedience already in place
Price: $40 per class
When: Saturday mornings, 8am–9am, around Port Macquarie CBD (location shown on booking)
Bring: a training lead, a 5m long lead, and whatever you use to reward or focus your dog.
Please ensure the equipment you train your dog on is not faulty and fitted correctly.
These classes are perfect progression after doing a group or private lesson in obedience. They will teach you the skills to allow you to best manage your dog in a real world scenario.
You will learn how to manage your dogs drive, improvement engagement, enhance your dogs obedience commands, correct mild levels of reactivity. High level reactivity is best dealt with in a private session.
Requirements to join:
1. Dog's must have basic obedience skills
2. No highly reactive or aggressive dogs
3. Dogs must be over 6 months
4. All dogs must be vaccinated
5. Handlers must be over 16 yrs old

Level 1 — $250 · Level 2 — $375
5 week programs, one lesson a week, 5:45pm–7:00pm at our Denham St training facility.
Scent work is a great way to build focus, confidence and teamwork, and you don't need experience to start. What you do need is a dog with strong drive for a ball, tug or food reward, since that's what keeps them motivated to search, and ideally a well established marker word like "yes" already in place (here's how that works).
Level 1 introduces target odour recognition and gets your dog searching independently and confidently.
Level 2 moves into advanced searching (ground, scent walls, wheels, cars) and scent discrimination, working toward double-blind searches.
Your dog needs prior experience with at least one target odour to join.
Run through the year on specific skills, in-motion obedience, advanced commands, distance control, off lead training, and reactive dog management.
